Walk Recap

October 9, 2012

So this has been long overdue…  So here it is:  The walk was amazing.  Still even today, I feel completely and totally overwhelmed by all of the support and love that I have received during this journey.  The walk was a great example of this.  Defeat Goliath/Team CEF had the most walkers of any team at the event.  The grand total of registered walkers was 122.  That blows me away.  The total dollars  we raised to date is $12,741.54 – Again awesome!  The walk in total has raised $740,000 for Brain Cancer research!  All of the money raised will stay in the Northwest.  Our funds have been earmarked to cover a patient support specialist at the Ivy Center for Brain Cancer Research at Swedish Hospital.  That is very cool!

As I have mentioned before, patient support is huge when it comes to cancer, even bigger when dealing with brain cancer as there is still so much they are learning about the brain, that it is critical to have someone helping you to understand what it means to be faced with brain cancer.

A great example can be shown with me just this past week.  So on Monday, I had my normal two-month MRI.  The MRI shows that Goliath is shrinking.  It shows that the chemo is working, my tumor has been getting smaller.  Which is awesome!  However the truth with my type of tumor, is that the doctors can prove that chemo can shrink an oligodendroglioma tumor like Goliath, but they can’t prove that by shrinking the tumor it means that I will live any longer.  Granted logic tells us all that if the tumor gets smaller that has to be a good thing, but yet science has not been able to actually prove that it means more years, more time with my family.  Yes very confusing – thus the need for a specialist to navigate through the world of brain cancer.  Welcome to the world of unknowns, questions, waiting, and possibilities.  That is my world – the world of someone living with a brain tumor.

I wish that I would have had more time at the walk to give high fives, hugs, and just had time to spend with each one of you who joined me!  Thank you just doesn’t seem to do things justice!

I have added some pictures to this blog, but more can be found here:
